Russia must withdraw military from NPP and not try to seize other nuclear power plants or gas transmission system facilities - Kuleba
Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and Russian Foreign Minister Sergiy Lavrov discussed nuclear security issues during their March 10 meeting
Dmytro Kuleba announced this at a briefing.
"Lavrov raised the topic of nuclear safety. I replied that before the arrival of the Russian troops, everything was in order with the Ukrainian nuclear power plants. They functioned reliably. Ukraine has always been and is a responsible participant in all the IAEA verification mechanisms and the nuclear non-proliferation treaty", he said.
Kuleba also noted that Russia is spreading lies about the alleged development of nuclear weapons in Ukraine. He added that the best thing Russia can do now is withdraw its military from Ukrainian nuclear power plants and allow personnel to serve them.
"Any encroachments on the sovereign power of Ukraine, on its territory, concerning nuclear facilities are unacceptable. If someone imposes on us a model according to which we must recognize some kind of temporary control by the Russians of our nuclear facilities, then we will reject it", Kuleba assured.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine also focused on the fact that Russia should demilitarize the nuclear facilities that it is now trying to control. The Kremlin must stop trying to seize other nuclear power plants in Ukraine, or gas infrastructure facilities.
