Russia may have moved troops from Belarus to Belgorod region – SBU Major General Yahun

Viktor Yahun, Deputy Head of Ukraine's Security Service (2014-2015), SBU Major General, says that the Russian forces have likely moved units from Belarusian training grounds to the Belgorod region

He said this on Espreso TV. 

“In fact, yesterday (May 23 - ed.) they already started moving troops. They withdrew from the training grounds in Belarus those units that were there, in particular in the Brest region. They marched them toward the Russian border, toward Smolensk. I suspect that these are the troops they want to bring in,” Viktor Yahun believes. 

The SBU Reserve Major General emphasized that no more than 100 volunteers of the Free Russia Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps crossed the border into the Belgorod region and seized the territory in 8 hours.

“All of this suggests that the entry into the territory of the Russian Federation and the mess they (Russian volunteers - ed.) made is a very successful special operation. It is very successful in terms of information, propaganda and demonstration,” summarized the former deputy head of the SBU.

•  On May 22, the Freedom of Russia Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps announced that they had liberated the settlements of Kozinka and Gora-Podol in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation as part of the creation of a demilitarized zone on the border with Russia, and that advanced units had entered Graivoron. A counterterrorism operation was introduced in the region and nuclear munitions are being evacuated.

• Late in the evening of May 22, Russian media reported that administrative buildings in Belgorod had been hit by drones, including the FSB and the Interior Ministry, and that drones had also been reported to have hit administrative buildings in Graivoron and Borisovka.

• A new report by the Institute for the Study of War also noted that Russia is experiencing information shocks due to the events in the Belgorod region.

• A 'counterterrorist operation' continues in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. The governor reports wounded and calls on locals not to return home for now.

• Director of the Defense Express information and consulting company Serhiy Zgurets noted that Russia is destroying all myths about its ability to protect the population of the Belgorod region.

• The Ukrainian military didn't take part in the May 22 infiltration operation in the Belgorod region, a senior Ukrainian official told The New York Times.
