Russia loses 650 soldiers, 11 tanks in a day of war in Ukraine - General Staff

This was reported by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on August 16.

The total combat losses of the Russian Federation from February 24, 2022 to August 16, 2023 are estimated to be:

A General Staff report: Occupiers plan to shoot a propaganda video about the "destruction of the Ukrainian subversive group"

"Amid decreasing morale of the invading forces' military units, the Russian command is increasingly resorting to staged filming of its successes," the statement reads.

It is noted that in the temporarily occupied village of Kozachi Laheri, Kherson region, preparations for the filming of a propaganda video on the plot "Destruction of 150 servicemen of the Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group in the local village house of culture" were noted.

However, according to the General Staff, as of August 13, there were up to 25 Russian servicemen in the house of culture.

Russian army launches 42 missile and 56 air strikes against Ukraine

Over the past day, Russian occupiers attacked the territory of Ukraine with air- and sea-launched missiles. In total, at least 28 cruise missiles of various types were launched: 4 Kh-22 cruise missiles, 20 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles, and 4 Kalibr cruise missiles.

In addition, at least 8 launches of hostile S-300 and S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles were recorded in Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.

In total, over the past day, the Russian Federation launched 42 missile and 56 air strikes, and fired 36 times from multiple launch rocket systems at Ukrainian troops' positions and populated areas.

Over 30 combat clashes took place in the frontline. Situation in different directions of Ukraine

Near the Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed. 

Near the northeastern Ukrainian border, Russian troops launched air strikes near Atynske, Yastrubyne and Pavlivka in the Sumy region. They fired mortar and artillery shells at more than 30 localities in Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

In the Kupyansk direction, Russian forces carried out unsuccessful offensives in the areas southeast of Vilshany and east of Petropavlivka in the Kharkiv region. They conducted air strikes in the areas of 3 localities in the Kharkiv region and 1 in Luhansk region. 3 settlements in the Kharkiv region came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman direction, the Russian enemy launched air strikes near Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and Siverske, Spirne, and Vesele in the Donetsk region. 2 settlements in the Donetsk region were subjected to hostile artillery fire.

In the Bakhmut direction, Russian soldiers made air strikes in the areas of 4 settlements in the Donetsk region. Over 15 localities of the region suffered from enemy artillery shelling, including.

In the Avdiivka direction, the occupying Russian forces conducted unsuccessful offensives in the area south of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region. They carried out air strikes in the areas of Avdiivka and Nevelske. More than 10 localities underwent artillery shelling.

In the Marinka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the Russian offensive near the towns of Marinka and Krasnohorivka in the Donetsk region. The enemy launched an air strike near Krasnohorivka, Donetsk region. Over 10 localities of the region were shelled with artillery.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, the invaders made unsuccessful attempts to regain their lost ground near Urozhaine in the Donetsk region. They launched air strikes in the areas of 4 settlements in the Donetsk region. More than 10 localities were subjected to artillery shelling.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Russia conducted air strikes in the areas of 4 localities in the Zaporizhzhia region. Over 25 populated areas  in Zaporizhzhia region suffered from hostile artillery shelling.

In the Kherson direction, the Russian invaders launched air strikes in the areas of Mykolaivka and Sadove in the Kherson region. Their artillery shelling targeted 3 localities in Kherson region and 1 in Mykolaiv region.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to conduct offensive operations in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions, consolidating their positions and carrying out counter-battery activities.

Ukrainian Defense Forces destroy 4 artillery vehicles and an anti-aircraft missile system

Over the past day, the aviation of the Ukraine's defense forces carried out 7 strikes on the areas of the Russian occupiers' personnel, weapons and military equipment concentration.

Missile and artillery units destroyed 4 artillery units at firing positions, 1 anti-aircraft missile system and another critical Russian object over the past day.

• On the night of August 15, the Russian army launched a large-scale missile attack on Ukraine. There are reports of hits in Dnipro, Lviv, and Lutsk on homes and enterprises, with casualties and destruction.
