Russia loses 340 soldiers, 20 UAVs and 15 artillery systems in one day of war in Ukraine - General Staff

The Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff shared their regular report, as below.

The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to August 24, 2023, amounted to:

• personnel - about 259,160 (+340 per day) 
• tanks - 4,375 (+2)
• armored fighting vehicles - 8,511 (+23)
• artillery systems - 5,333 (+15)
• MLRS - 723 (+1)
• air defense systems - 494 (+3)  
• aircraft - 315
• helicopters - 316
• vehicles and tank trucks - 7,773 (+28)
• ships/boats - 18
• UAV operational-tactical level - 4,344 (+20)
• special equipment - 801 (+1)
• cruise missiles - 1,406

General Staff report: In Melitopol, Russian forces have repurposed a sanatorium into a field hospital

"Russian invaders continue to use the civilian infrastructure of the temporarily occupied settlements to provide medical care to their injured servicemen," the statement said.

It noted that in the town of Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia region, Russian servicemen have repurposed the territory of a sanatorium into a field hospital, where about 100 injured Russian soldiers are being treated. 

Russian troops have launched 10 missile strikes and 57 air strikes on Ukraine in one day

According to the General Staff, over the past day, Russian forces launched 10 missile strikes, 57 air strikes, and 70 MLRS attacks on Ukraine.

Moreover, they once again attacked the territory of Ukraine with Shahed-136/131 UAVs. Ukrainian air defense destroyed 12 Russian attack drones. Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings, port infrastructure, schools, and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed.

On the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed. 

On the northeastern border with Russia, Russian forces carried out air strikes near 4 settlements. They also launched mortar and artillery attacks, targeting a total of over 15 settlements across Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions.

In the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops were attacking without success near the settlement of Novoyehorivka, Luhansk region. They also carried out air strikes near 2 settlements and shelled 6 more settlements across the Kharkiv region.

In the Lyman direction, Russian forces shelled over 30 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery.

In the Bakhmut direction, Russian troops launched an unsuccessful offensive near Velese, Donetsk region. They carried out air strikes near 4 settlements and shelled over 25 more settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery.

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled attacks near Avdiivka. Russian troops shelled over 15 settlements with artillery. 

In the Marinka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces held back the Russian offensive near the towns of Marinka and Novomykhailivka. Russian troops launched an air strike on a settlement and shelled 6 others with artillery.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops launched an air strike on a settlement in the Donetsk region and shelled over 10 more settlements.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Russian troops launched an unsuccessful offensive near Mala Tokmachka. They carried out air strikes near 3 settlements across the Zaporizhzhia region. Over 20 settlements came under Russian artillery fire.

In the Kherson direction, Russian forces carried out air strikes near 5 settlements in the Kherson and Odesa regions. Six settlements across the Kherson region came under Russian artillery fire.

The Ukrainian army conducts offensives in the Melitopol direction, consolidating their positions and conducting counter-battery operations.

Ukrainian Armed Forces destroy 2 Russian artillery vehicles and hit 2 control points

Over the past day, Ukrainian aviation struck 2 Russian control points and launched 9 strikes on concentrations of personnel and 4 strikes on anti-aircraft missile systems.

Ukrainian missile and artillery units struck 2 command posts, 1 concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment, and 2 artillery pieces at Russian firing positions over the past day.

• On the night of August 24, missile and ballistic alerts were reported in Dnipro and nearby regions in eastern and southern Ukraine. Russian troops have attacked a transportation facility, resulting in injuries to 7 people and causing damage to dozens of buildings.
