Russia launches shrapnel-filled Shaheds in June 10 attack on Ukraine
During the attack on Kyiv on the night of June 10, the invading Russian forces used Shahed drones equipped with shrapnel warheads
Yuriy Ihnat, Head of the Communications Department of Ukraine’s Air Force, made this statement during the national telethon, according to Ukrinform.
He noted that Shahed drones equipped with shrapnel warheads have a wider area of destruction and pose a greater danger to people.
“The warhead of both a missile and a Shahed drone can be equipped differently—it may contain a thermobaric or high-explosive charge, or shrapnel,” Ihnat explained. “Shrapnel is designed to cover a larger area, targeting not only equipment and vehicles but also people.”
He stressed that during air attacks involving drones with shrapnel warheads, it is strictly forbidden to be near windows or outside. “With this type of payload, the fragments pose a deadly threat to civilians,” Ihnat warned.
- During another Russian attack on the night of Tuesday, June 10, Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed 284 enemy aerial targets across the country.
- The assault began on the evening of June 9, when Russian forces launched Shahed-type attack drones over Ukrainian territory. Civilian casualties and significant damage were reported in Odesa and Kyiv.
