Russia launches airstrike on Ukraine, injuring civilians in Sumy, Kyiv, Zhytomyr regions

Strike on Sumy

At 04:09 a.m., Suspilne reported explosions in Sumy. Later, Sumy Mayor Artem Kobzar confirmed a strike in the Zarichny district of the city.

“Another Shahed drone hit near Lake Chekha. Many windows in a high-rise building were shattered. The State Emergency Service (SES) and police are working at the site. A crisis response headquarters will be set up to deal with the emergency,” the statement says.

Kobzar added that as of 04:41 a.m., one person was injured, and medical assistance was being provided.

At 05:20 a.m., the mayor reported another explosion in the city due to another Shahed drone strike from the opposite side of Lake Chekha.

Later, Serhii Kryvosheienko, the head of Sumy’s Military Administration, stated that the number of injured had increased to two.

“Preliminarily, two people have been injured. There is damage to balcony frames and windows in a high-rise building. Emergency services are working at the site,” he wrote.

The State Emergency Service reported that the blast wave shattered 148 windows in three high-rise buildings and other structures. Rescuers surveyed the area and assisted the victims.

By around 9 a.m., the number of people injured in the attack had risen to three.

Consequences in Kyiv region

At around 6 a.m., the Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that a 44-year-old woman had been injured in the Russian attack, sustaining a cut wound on her leg.

Additionally, a private house and utility buildings were partially destroyed. Damage to private homes was also recorded in the Fastiv district.

Strike on Zhytomyr region

The head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Bunechko, reported that debris from enemy targets damaged a residential house and an outbuilding in the Zhytomyr district.

As a result, a woman was injured and hospitalized. Additionally, two children, aged four and seven, were taken to the hospital due to an acute stress reaction.
