Russia is trying to bypass Bakhmut since it withstands frontal attacks - military expert Zgurets
Defense Express CEO Serhiy Zgurets believes that Russian forces have moved artillery systems and ammunition near Bakhmut to ensure dense shelling of the city
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"Bakhmut and Soledar are 2 frontline areas that remain the hottest spots. Ukrainian Armed Forces will be reinforced there to prevent the enemy from advancing deeper into Ukraine’s territory. To repel enemy attacks, which are regular and exhausting. To stabilize the situation around Soledar.
Soledar, Yakovlivka, Pidhorodne are located to the north of Bakhmut and are the direction where the enemy is trying to bypass Bakhmut, which withstands frontal attacks," explained Zgurets.
According to the expert, combat actions also continue near Klishchiivka, where Russian troops are also trying to break through the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces coming from the southern part of the Donetsk region.
"With all these bypass directions the enemy aims to reach the supply routes. But these routes are located much further than Soledar and Klishchiivka. Bakhmut is unlikely to be encircled. Russia throws all the resources it has at Bakhmut. The enemy has moved ammunition and artillery systems to Bakhmut to ensure dense artillery shelling," added Zgurets.
- Yevhenii Oropai, lieutenant and company commander of the Svoboda battalion of Ukraine’s National Guard, noted that several Russian infantry assaults took place near Bakhmut at night.
- ISW experts believe that Wagner PMC financier Yevgeny Prigozhin tried to justify the importance of the mines around Bakhmut and Soledar by saying that they have "unique and historic defenses" that act as a "network of underground cities."
