Russia increases use of cluster bombs — British intelligence
The Russian Air Force have likely begun to use the 500-kilogram RBK-500 cluster bomb more often
The UK Ministry of Defense reported the information.
It noted that, depending on the variant, each cluster bomb can eject from 100 to 350 submunitions. They are detonated either by hundreds of high-speed fragments or by one large cumulative projectile.
Reports indicate that RBK-500s have been deployed against Ukrainian forces in the Vuhledar direction and near Avdiivka, Donetsk region.
"There is a realistic possibility that, as with other air-dropped bombs, Russia has likely recently integrated a UMPC guided stand-off glide kit with RBK-500," the intelligence suggests.
At the same time, Russian bombs have low accuracy. However, due to the large number of submunitions, one RBK-500 can cause damage over an area of several hundred meters, increasing the likelihood of causing at least some damage to the intended target.
