Progress despite biggest losses: British intelligence assesses Russian offensive on Avdiivka
In recent days, Russian troops have made a small advance on the northern axis of movement in an attempt to encircle the city of Avdiivka in Donetsk region. Despite the advance, the Russian army suffers thousands of manpower losses.
This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defence.
It is noted that since the beginning of October 2023, the Russian army has moved the front line by 2 km in this area. Despite the small numbers, this progress is probably one of Russia's greatest achievements since the start of its offensive against Avdiivka.
However, British intelligence notes that this advance has cost the Russian army units involved thousands of casualties.
According to the British Ministry of Defence, Russian troops are gradually approaching the Avdiivka Coke Plant, where Ukrainian defenders hold one of the main defensive positions.
"Although Avdiivka has become a salient or bulge in the Ukrainian front line, Ukraine remains in control of a corridor of territory approximately 7km wide, through which it continues to supply the town" the British intelligence report said.
The day before, UK intelligence called the Ukrainian General Staff's data on Russian army losses in manpower true. Over the past six weeks, they have become record-breaking due to the offensive on Avdiivka.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 28 November, the occupiers' losses in manpower reached 326,440 people.
