"The captivity of Ukrainian medical personnel is another critical issue. According to the available data, there are about 500 medical workers there," said Yevhen Tsymbalyuk, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the International Organizations in Vienna. He noted that according to the Geneva Conventions, medical personnel have a special status: "They can be detained only to provide medical care to Ukrainian prisoners of war and should be released as soon as their assistance is no longer needed."
The Ambassador also noted that Russia has not yet provided the International Committee of the Red Cross unimpeded access to Ukrainian prisoners of war.
- Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets said that 28,000 Ukrainian civilians are currently being held captive by the invaders.
