Russia has deported more than 1.5 million children from Ukraine since 2014 - Ukrainian lawyer
Kateryna Rashevska, lawyer of the Regional Center for Human Rights, said that the Russian Federation has deported more than 1.5 million Ukrainian children to its territory since the beginning of the aggression against Ukraine
She spoke about this on the Espreso TV channel.
"Only Russia has information about deported children from Ukraine, including their personal data. We can only use approximate figures provided by the Russians and our international partners. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has deported between 260 and 700 thousand children from Ukraine. Since 2014, Russia has deported more than 1.5 million Ukrainian children," Rashevska said.
The lawyer emphasized that Russia continues to illegally deport Ukrainian children to Russian territory
"In 2022, more than 30 thousand Ukrainian children were held in "re-education" institutions controlled by the Russian Federation. Also, more than 2000 Ukrainian children were in Belarus. The numbers are simply staggering. I would like to emphasize that if we are talking about medical examinations, the numbers will be even more frightening. Because in September 2022, Putin issued an order to conduct a clinical examination of all children in the temporarily occupied territories. According to the results, in the so-called LPR only, 70% of children, according to Russian doctors, need hospitalization," she added.
