Russia has been ahead of Ukraine in use of FPV drones since summer
Since summer of 2023, the invading Russian army has been using FPV drones in combat to a much greater extent than the Ukrainian defenders
This is due to the complete transfer of Russia's economy to a military mode, Vasyl Samovar, head of the Aviation and Air Defence Service of the 3rd Air Assault Brigade, said in an interview with DniproTV.
"The number of FPV drones is constantly growing. They have a lot of them now. I think they have more of them than we do. Because the state is engaged in this and the state is engaged in a normal mode, because they have switched - either completely or almost - to military mode and they have everything for war. That's why they are well supplied," Samovar explained.
"They have top-of-the-line drones. And it seems to me that they are already ahead of us in terms of the number of FPV drones and the number of applications. And it's very frightening," he added.
According to him, this trend has been observed "since summer - early autumn".
In addition, according to Vasyl Samovar, the Russian forces are now "actively using drones with night cameras and thermal imaging cameras."
"That is, we cannot feel safe even at night," the military said.
The response to this, Samovar continued, should be to put Ukraine's economy on a war footing, so that the state "does everything for the frontline, not everything for corruption."
In other words, Vasyl Samovar specified that the Ukrainian forces should also be massively armed with FPV drones, and that domestic electronic warfare systems, in particular trench warfare, should be developed and strengthened.
