Gerasimov's deputy Shamarin arrested in Russia for bribery
Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin, head of the Main Communications Directorate and the General Staff Deputy Chief, was detained in Russia. He was arrested for bribery
Kommersant reports this with reference to a law enforcement source.
It is noted that Shamarin's place was searched in the criminal case of alleged fraud. As a result, the head of the Main Communications Directorate was taken for questioning to the Main Military Investigation Department of the Russian Strategic Committee.
"The case is being considered by the 235th Garrison Military Court. As in the case of General Ivan Popov, who was arrested earlier in a fraud case, a case card appeared on the court's website on May 22, which refers to the arrest of a person with hidden data," the statement says.
Later, the publication reported that Shamarin was arrested for bribery on a particularly large scale.
"The 235th Garrison Military Court reported that General Vadim Shamarin, head of the Main Communications Department of the Russian Armed Forces, was arrested for two months in a case of taking a bribe in a particularly large amount (Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Under this article, he faces up to 15 years in prison," the media reported.
- On May 1, UK intelligence reported that corruption in the Russian Defense Ministry was one of the factors behind Russia's low efficiency, especially at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
