The terrifying reality of virtual Russia
Worse than the murderous Russia that destroys Ukrainians every day is only one thing: a humane Russia, the bearer of the untouchable 'golden fund' of world culture, which still exists in the minds of most people in Western Europe and the U.S.
This virtual Russia is more terrifying because few perceive it as a threat — rather, it serves as the protective mask for the real, murderous Russia. In reality, it is the strongest defensive bastion for the true Russia. It effectively blocks almost all discussions about the oppressed peoples of the Russian Federation and, thus, about its decolonization, meaning the continued disintegration of this empire.
What rights do the Buryats or Yakuts have when the homeland of Tchaikovsky and Dostoevsky is at stake?! And this, in turn, directly affects the strict limitations on aid to Ukraine: support, but in a way that does not "rock Russia."
I don’t know if this will change under President Trump (I doubt it), but as long as it doesn’t, the war between Ukraine and Russia, in one form or another, will continue. Unless, of course, Russia, like the USSR once did, collapses despite the strong desire of Western politicians to preserve it.
