Russia floods TikTok with AI fakes of Ukrainian troops claiming 'catastrophe'
Russian propaganda is spreading AI-generated videos on TikTok, where alleged Ukrainian soldiers talk about a "catastrophic situation" in a number of frontline areas
The Center for Countering Disinformation wrote this on its Telegram channel.
"The Center records a new series of fake videos on TikTok aimed at demoralizing Ukrainian society. In the videos, AI-generated "Ukrainian fighters" talk about a "catastrophic situation" in a number of frontline areas where heavy fighting is currently ongoing," the statement says.
Deepfake detection services confirmed that the video was falsified - this is indicated by unnatural facial expressions, a monotonous voice, and too impeccable military uniforms.
The Center for Countering Disinformation emphasizes that Russian propaganda systematically spreads fake videos with alleged Ukrainian Armed Forces military personnel to sow among Ukrainians the idea of "inevitable defeat."
"Therefore, it is important to critically perceive such posts from social networks and check information sources. Operational information about the situation at the front can be found on the official resources of the Ukrainian Defense Forces," the center added.
On November 5, the Center for Countering Disinformation reported that Russian propagandists distributed a fake video in which alleged Ukrainian soldiers in the Vovchansk direction complained about a "difficult situation" at the front.
