Russia claims drones attacked military facility and village near Vnukovo airport in Moscow

Russia announced on Tuesday, July 4, that drones attacked the area of a military facility and a village near Vnukovo airport, Moscow region. Flights to Vnukovo airport were redirected to other airports as a result

Local media, citing emergency services, reported this. 

Residents in the New Moscow area, a few kilometers from the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD), heard a series of loud explosions. The intervals between the explosions were approximately 5 minutes. It is speculated that these explosions were caused by air defense measures.

According to Russian emergency services, two drones were reportedly shot down in New Moscow, while another one was downed in the Kaluga region. Local residents also mentioned explosions in Akanshino village, Moscow district, around 06:40 a.m.

Drone attack on a military unit near Moscow

Furthermore, it is alleged that a drone attacked a military unit in Kubinka, near Moscow. Preliminary information suggests that around 4 a.m., a kamikaze drone targeted an administrative building within the military unit. No casualties or injuries have been reported as a result of the explosion.

Drone attack near Vnukovo airport 

Russian emergency services state that two drones were downed near Moscow, specifically in the vicinity of Valuevo village, which is near Vnukovo airport.

In the morning, Russian media, citing the airport, reported that flights destined for Vnukovo, one of Moscow's main airports, were being redirected to other airports. Five flights from Sharm el-Sheikh, Dubai, Makhachkala, Chelyabinsk, and Novosibirsk were affected. Additionally, a flight from Ankara circled near Vnukovo for over an hour.

The airport resumed its operations after 8 a.m.
