Russia attempts to expand incursion zone in Sumy region – State Border Guard Service
Spokesman for Ukraine's State Border Guard Service, Andriy Demchenko, reported that Russian forces are attacking border guard positions almost daily
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
"The most difficult situation right now is in the Kharkiv region and parts of the Sumy region, as the enemy has recently increased assault actions, especially toward Vovchansk. Border guard positions are being stormed by Russian forces nearly every day. The situation near Kupiansk also remains difficult, with Russian forces showing high activity there as well," Demchenko said.
According to him, in the Sumy region, Russian forces are using small assault groups to try to break into Ukrainian territory. This tactic has been used for a while, particularly near the settlements of Basivka and Zhuravka. Russian forces are now trying to widen the area of these small-group attacks, regardless of losses.
"Ukrainian defenders – border guards and Armed Forces units – destroy Russian personnel trying to cross the border every day. Still, breakthrough attempts and these tactics continue," Demchenko added.
- On Monday, May 20, there were 177 combat clashes between the two armies along the Russian-Ukrainian front. Ukrainian defense forces are holding the line in 12 directions.
