Russia attacks in five directions, defends in two — Ukraine's General Staff

This was reported by AFU General Staff on April 18.

The enemy has sustained significant losses, but it persists in the Kupyansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Marinka directions, using operational-tactical and army aviation to its advantage.

On April 17th, the Ukrainian Armed Forces successfully repelled more than 70 Russian attacks in these regions. 

In the last 24 hours, the Ukrainian military has conducted several successful strikes against enemy targets

The AFU Air Force carried out 12 strikes on Russian personnel and military equipment positions. 

A Merlin type reconnaissance UAV was successfully shot down.

Ukrainian units of missile troops and artillery carried out attacks on two enemy manpower, weapons, and military equipment positions. They also struck an enemy radio-electronic warfare station. 

Yesterday, Russia launched 4 missile strikes and 41 air strikes on Ukraine

The likelihood of further strikes remains throughout Ukraine.

On April 17, the enemy launched 4 missile strikes, 41 airstrikes, and executed 57 MLRS attacks on Ukrainian positions and civilian infrastructure. As a result, civilians have been injured.

The situation in Ukrainian regions: 

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. Belarus is checking the combat readiness of its troops.

At the same time, the Russian Federation continued shelling the entire line of contact: 3 settlements in the Sumy region, as well as 5 more in the Kharkiv region were attacked. 

In the Kupyansk direction, 5 settlements of the Kharkiv region came under shelling, while Russians tried to attack in one area. 

In the Lyman direction, 5 towns and villages in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions came under artillery shelling. Russian troops unsuccessfully attacked near Spirne. 

In the Bakhmut direction, fighting for the fortress city continues. 12 localities in the Donetsk region were subjected to numerous Russian attacks. In two areas, they tried to advance. 

In the Avdiivka direction, the invading Russian forces attacked 8 settlements in the Donetsk region, unsuccessful enemy offensive attempts were recorded  near three areas. 

In the Marinka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled numerous enemy attacks in the Donetsk region. At the same time, 3 localities came under enemy fire.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, 7 localities in the Donetsk region were attacked by the Russian troops.

In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, cities and villages were subjected to Russian shelling more than 40 times. Enemy is still on the defensive. 

• Earlier it was reported that 200 recently mobilized Russians from the reserves had arrived in Zaytseve, Donetsk region, to replenish manpower losses.
