Romania could become hub for sending peacekeeping troops to Ukraine, says interim president Bolojan
Romania's interim president, Ilie Bolojan, stated that his country could become a transit hub for sending Western peacekeeping troops to Ukraine, but emphasized that further analysis is needed
This was reported by Defense Romania.
Regarding support for Ukraine, Bolojan highlighted that during consultations, Romania expressed its readiness to continue backing the country. He emphasized that this support is not just about aiding a victim against an aggressor, which is a fundamental issue, but also about safeguarding Romania's own security.
In his view, discussing the deployment of Romanian troops to Ukraine is premature. He stated, "Such a substantive discussion can take place when there is no ceasefire, but a peace agreement."
"There was no substantial discussion. There is also no parliamentary support. We could serve as a transit center for these (peacekeeping) troops, and an analysis could be conducted. In my opinion, we must approach things calmly," said Romania's interim president.
- Earlier, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu stated that he does not support the deployment of Romanian troops to Ukraine.
