Reserve Major Hetman outlines Russia's military objectives for 2024
Oleksiy Hetman, a reserve major in the National Guard of Ukraine, revealed that the Russian Federation is persisting with offensive strategies and aims to fully control Donetsk and Luhansk regions by the end of 2024
He shared this insight during an interview with Espreso.
“The Russians have specific plans for the current year. Before their presidential elections scheduled for March 15-17, they intend to approach the administrative borders of Donetsk and Luhansk. However, this is just the beginning. The Putin regime seeks to portray their so-called special military operation as successful. In 2025, Russia plans to extend its control over the remaining Ukrainian territories, as outlined in their constitution. Essentially, nothing substantial has changed," he stated.
The NGU major emphasized that the Russian Federation's strategic objectives could face challenges due to potential manpower losses.
He commented, "These are their strategic goals. Understanding their tactical goals and observing their implementation would facilitate predicting their actions. At present, all we can affirm is that Russia remains committed to offensive actions. As for their losses in manpower, this situation can only impress our European partners. In particular, the fact that the Russians have unlimited mobilization resources and therefore do not care about them. This is not true. If they persist at this rate, it may not be sustainable in the long run."
- Notably, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his year-end press conference on December 14, asserted that the objectives of the war against Ukraine remained the same.
