Representatives of Northern European and Baltic countries meet with Zelenskyy
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this visit is an important signal of the strong support and solidarity of partner countries with Ukraine.
He reported it on his Telegram channel.
"I had a meeting with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Urmas Reinsalu, Iceland – Þórdís Kolbrún R. Gylfadóttir, Latvia –Edgars Rinkēvičs, Lithuania – Gabrielius Landsbergis, Norway – Anniken Huitfeldt, Finland – Pekka Haavisto and Sweden –Tobias Billström", the post says.
A joint statement by Foreign Ministers of Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and Ukraine was also published on the website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
They called on Russian Federation to fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law, as well as to release Ukrainian civilians illegally deported and detained under political pretexts, as well as those who were taken hostage during full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
"We emphasize the need to ensure humanitarian access to protect lives, rights and dignity of victims of armed conflicts in accordance with international humanitarian law. In this regard, access of humanitarian organizations to those in need should be ensured," statement says.
In addition, countries undertake to provide further humanitarian aid and support Ukraine's efforts to prepare for winter, in particular, to restore Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
"At the same time, we will continue our efforts to support reconstruction of destroyed Ukrainian infrastructure. We call on international community to support reconstruction of Ukraine, including finding ways to do it at the expense of Russia. We remind you of the UN General Assembly Resolution of November 14, 2022 ES-11/6 "Promoting reparations for aggression against Ukraine", which determined need for creation of international mechanism for compensation for damages arising as a result of internationally illegal actions of Russian Federation in or against Ukraine," statement noted.
