Putin toughens penalties for draft dodgers to boost mobilization
Russian leader Vladimir Putin is working to hastily amend Russian law to permit more soldiers to join the army and the war in Ukraine
Sky news reports that this includes last week's modifications to the conscription age restrictions, which have been raised for individuals performing military service (from 27 to 30) and reservists (up to 70).
The most recent modification is the draft registration fines system, which now includes penalties for both people who miss meetings and administrative officials.
The following figures were provided by Russian state news agencies:
-
30,000 rubles (about USD 326) for those who skip a draft board meeting without a valid excuse
-
Officials who fail to register eligible recruits may be fined between 60,000 and 80,000 rubles (about USD 650 and USD 870).
-
Legal firms that fail to register eligible recruits will be fined between 400,000 and 500,000 rubles (about USD 4,350 and USD 5,440).
Failure to submit the military registration office with lists of eligible and listed recruits for initial military registration may result in a fine of up to 50,000 rubles (USD 540).
