Putin: Russia suspends participation in Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty
On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia had decided to suspend its participation in the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.
This was stated by the President of the country sponsoring terrorism, Vladimir Putin, to the Federal Assembly.
"I am compelled to announce today that Russia is suspending its participation in the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty," the Russian dictator said.
In addition, Putin emphasized that it is a suspension of participation in the Treaty, not a withdrawal from it.
"But before we discuss this issue, we need to understand for ourselves what the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance, such as France and the United Kingdom, are aiming for, and how we will take into account their strategic arsenals. That is, the total potential strike of the Alliance.
With their statement, they have now essentially applied to participate in this process. Go ahead, we don't mind. You just don't need to try to lie to everyone again, to pretend to be a peace and détente proponent," Putin added.
For reference. The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START l) is a nuclear arms limitation agreement between the United States and Russia. This treaty provides for reductions in deployed nuclear warheads, submarine-launched ballistic missiles, heavy bombers, and intercontinental ballistic missiles.
