Putin pushes Russia into Eurasia
The latest version of the Russian foreign policy concept cannot be called new. Everything stays the same
But it can definitely be called dogmatic, a pillar of Putin's ideology. Its main idea is that we do what we want and how we want.
There are passages in the text about compliance with international law, and then: Russia will cooperate with its allies regardless of their international recognition. Everyone is also fed up with claims of a "civilization state" that has a thousand-year history of statehood and is the basis of the "community of the Russian world". Although it's funny that yesterday, during his speech, Lukashenko also began to sing a song about the "Russianness" of Belarus because of its history and that “Russianness” seems to belong not only to Russia.
Another thing is interesting. The concept calls Russia a Eurasian and Euro-Pacific power. And Russia wants to have China and India as strategic partners. This means that Putin's vision is a Eurasian vision of Russia's role. Moreover, the concept did not forget to mention his favorite idea of fighting for "traditional values."
“The concept calls Russia a Eurasian and Euro-Pacific power. And Russia wants to have China and India as strategic partners. This means that Putin's vision is a Eurasian vision of Russia's role”
Accordingly, our (not only our Ukrainian, but also Western) task is to create a conflict among Russian elites about Russia's "orientation.” There has always been a debate between "Westerners" and others, but now Putin is pushing this balance toward Eurasia. Many Russians don't feel like Europeans, but they hardly see themselves as an appendage of China and its colony. We have to show them that this is where they are headed and very quickly. And of course, it is good to have a clear vision of how "Russianness" as part of European civilization - our civilization - differs from Eurasian "Russianness." After all, our eastern border is the border between Europe and Eurasia, and not only geographically.
