Putin directs school textbook revisions to align with war narrative — CCD
Russian leader Vladimir Putin personally controls propaganda in “history” lessons in Russian schools
According to Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD), Putin recently held a personal meeting with editors of Russian history textbooks. During the meeting, he called for a revision of older textbooks, claiming those written before the start of the so-called “special military operation” contain “Russophobia” and distorted historical facts.
“The rewriting of textbooks, initiated by Putin himself, is part of a broad campaign to militarize children and eliminate any signs of disloyalty in the education system,” the CCD said. “The fact that the Russian leader is personally involved in shaping how history is taught highlights just how important child-focused propaganda is to him.”
The CCD emphasized that education in Russia is now primarily a tool for promoting war as normal, cultivating a generation fully loyal to the Kremlin’s aggressive policies, and preparing that generation for future wars.
- In late June, Russian propaganda may intensify attempts to discredit the Ukrainian negotiating team that participated in the Istanbul talks.
