Publications about suspension of Ukrainian offensive and changes in tactics are not true — Zgurets
Serhiy Zgurets, Defense Express director and military expert, noted that the enemy's defense is dense in the Zaporizhzhia direction, so the offensive will last for quite some time
He stated this on Espreso.
The military expert commented on reports regarding the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and a publication in The Wall Street Journal suggesting a review of tactics, which allegedly led to a halt in the offensive.
"I believe these reports don't accurately reflect the situation. Currently, the Ukrainian side is conducting operations in five different areas, covering a 150 km stretch on the Zaporizhzhia front. Over the past week, our forces have been engaging in actions that have revealed the Russian defense strategies. We have also initiated active operations in various locations along these fronts. By operating on a broad front, we prevent the enemy from determining our main attack direction and force them to bring reserves from their secondary and even tertiary lines of defense. These reserves then come under our artillery fire. This tactical approach of operating on a wide front will continue for some time. When we talk about improving tactics, we are actually analyzing how to successfully breach the enemy's fortifications, considering that we are operating close to the main defensive structures of the Russian troops,” he stated.
The expert further explained that special tactics are required to navigate through enemy minefields. When passing through these minefields, our forces stop in narrow columns, which the enemy takes advantage of by deploying helicopters to attack the halted columns.
"Our main focus now is to neutralize the enemy's artillery, which poses a threat to our offensive operations. We are also actively working on eliminating enemy helicopters, and our engineering units are engaged in these tasks across the entire front, albeit with varying levels of intensity. Therefore, I wouldn't say that offensive actions have been suspended; they are ongoing but progress at a potentially slower pace. If we recall the enemy's defeat from the Kherson direction, such actions lasted for approximately two months. Currently, the enemy's defenses are much stronger, so the duration of our offensive actions will likely be significant. In due time, we will witness changes in Ukrainian approaches. It is crucial that we focus on employing technological solutions to destroy the enemy, rather than relying solely on full-scale assault actions by entire brigades. Instead, actions are carried out by individual companies or battalions, which keeps the enemy uncertain and under pressure as they have to allocate reserves," Zgurets clarified.
