Poland’s outgoing president Duda to discuss Ukraine-EU-NATO policy with successor
Polish President Andrzej Duda says he will talk with his successor, Karol Nawrocki, about Nawrocki’s lack of support for Ukraine joining the European Union and NATO
He shared this in an interview with LRT.
Duda was asked whether the change in relations between Warsaw and Kyiv would be influenced by the next Polish leader’s opposition to Ukraine joining NATO and the EU.
“I will still talk with him on this topic. As you know, I have a different view, which comes from my presidential experience — almost 10 years as president of Poland, and with all the knowledge I have gained during these years, I will definitely want to share some of it when speaking with the elected president,” he replied.
At the same time, Duda emphasized that when Nawrocki assumes the presidency, he will carefully consider the international situation and Polish-Ukrainian relations.
“In Poland, it is somewhat true that the viewpoint depends on the position you hold. The chair of the President of the Republic of Poland is a very specific seat, and from that seat, the world looks a bit different,” said the current president.
- Following the counting of 100% of votes, Karol Nawrocki was declared the winner of the second round of the Polish presidential election. The gap between him and Rafal Trzaskowski was less than 2%. The current Polish leader, Andrzej Duda, congratulated his successor.
- Nawrocki assured his people that he will represent the country with dignity on the international stage.
