Poland to tighten Belarus sanctions over Russia’s planned deployment of nuclear weapons

On Tuesday, March 28, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that Belarus would face tougher sanctions due to Russia's intentions to deploy tactical nuclear weapons on its territory

Reuters reports that Poland is holding daily talks with other EU member states on the 11th package of sanctions against Russia. Given Russia's plans to deploy its nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus, the new restrictions will also apply to official Minsk.

“This step taken by Russia... the announcement of the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus, will certainly lead to the announcement of additional sanctions, the level of sanctions will be much more severe for the Lukashenko regime,” Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said.

Morawiecki reminded that Warsaw does not accept Belarus' actions regarding its complicity in the Russian war. To convey this to Lukashenko's regime, Poland may resort to restricting traffic on the Belarusian border.
