Poland to draft documents on Russian corrupt influence. Espreso
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that his government will soon create public documents about Russian influence over MEPs
Morawiecki said this in an interview with the i.pl portal.
In December 2022, public opinion in the EU was shaken by a corruption scandal in the European Parliament. Countries such as Qatar and Morocco tried to influence the economic and political decisions of the European Parliament through bribes given to people holding important positions in the European Parliament.
The Italian former member of the European Parliament, Pier Antonio Panzeri, one of the key figures in the corruption case, cooperated with Belgium in exchange for a reduced sentence.
Morawiecki also said that the Minister of Internal Affairs will publish documents related to the case.
"Today we already know that there were Russian traces in the corruption of MEPs. Our Minister of Internal Affairs will soon show documents related to the influence of Russian services that corrupted MEPs," he said.
When asked if it was about Polish MEPs, he replied that the information concerns several MEPs, "but not from Poland".
He also added that many people unknowingly buy into Russian propaganda, as in the case of the border protection issue.
"The Belarusian attack on the Polish border due to artificially provoked migration was a prelude to Russian aggression against Ukraine. It was an attempt to undermine the cohesion of the European Union, as well as an attempt to destabilize Poland so that when Russia attacks Ukraine, we will no longer be able to accept Ukrainian refugees. This attempt failed, but, unfortunately, there are still publicists and political activists from the opposition who do not understand this," the Prime Minister said.
