Polish PM Tusk accuses Putin, Lukashenko of orchestrating migrant pressure
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has stated that Russian leader Vladimir Putin and self-proclaimed Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko are gathering migrants near Poland’s border
This was reported by RMF24.
Tusk emphasized that the current situation on Poland’s eastern border is tense, and he attributed it to the actions of previous governments.
"Putin and Lukashenko are collecting migrants near the Polish border. We want our border to be tight along its entire length… If PiS (Law and Justice party) had ruled one year longer, there would be a million more migrants—from African and Arab countries (...). The golden era of smugglers ended with the fall of the PiS government," the Prime Minister said.
He stressed that Warsaw is actively addressing the issue.
“We are launching initiatives to stop illegal migration at its source—for those planning to relocate and choosing the route through Poland. This includes more than just rejecting asylum applications,” Tusk assured.
He also requested permission to further suspend the right to asylum.
“If there is such a thing as the threat of a cultural conflict—and this is what Western European countries are currently facing—it’s due to the influx of people from vastly different cultures, often practicing a different religion. And while not everyone may like it, the role of the state is to ensure that fundamental social structures and traditions are not disrupted,” he added.
In March, it was reported that Poland had recorded an increase in the number of illegal migrants and attacks on border patrols along the Belarusian frontier.
Meanwhile, on May 19, Lithuania filed a lawsuit at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, accusing the regime of self-declared Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko of orchestrating a migration crisis in violation of international law.
