Poland builds Europe’s largest land force to counter Russian threat - The Telegraph
Polish authorities are working to make their ground army the largest in Europe
The Telegraph reports that Russia's invasion of Ukraine has forced Poland to revolutionize its defense sector. The Poles plan to spend 4% of GDP on the army, which is twice the NATO norms.
The modernization program includes the purchase of more than 1,000 tanks, 600 self-propelled howitzers, 18 HIMARS launchers, and 288 MLRS systems.
The army will also be reinforced with more than 1,000 Polish-made infantry fighting vehicles, 96 AH-64E Apache helicopters and 48 FA-50 aircraft.
In total, Poland has placed orders for arms worth more than USD 117 billion by 2035. This year's defense budget is a record 26 billion.
They want to double the size of the Polish army to 300,000 people.
