Perfect for off-road use: Norway to provide Ukraine with 50 M548 tracked trucks
Norway will provide Ukraine with about 50 M548 tracked transporters designed to transport people and goods off-road as part of military assistance
This was announced on Tuesday, September 19, by the Norwegian government on its website.
"These [equipment - ed.] are important to get supplies to areas where there are no roads," said Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.
The M548 is a tracked vehicle that can move in areas inaccessible to wheeled vehicles.
Therefore, the Norwegian government emphasizes that these transporters are an important addition to wheeled trucks. They can transport ammunition, food and water to Ukrainian troops in the field.
The Norwegian version of the M548 tracked transporters is called NM199. They have been in storage in the Norwegian army, but will undergo maintenance before being handed over to Ukraine.
The M548 transporter

It has a payload of 5.4 tons and can carry up to four people in the cab and has a cargo compartment behind it. The vehicle has a maximum speed of 61 km/h and a range of 480 km. It is used for a wide range of missions, including the transportation of ammunition and other equipment. The vehicle can be armed with a 12.7 mm machine gun above the cab for self-defense. The M548 has been exported to various countries around the world. A whole family of specialized transport vehicles was developed on its basis.
