Paris Mayor Hidalgo opposes Russian participation in Olympics
The mayor of the French capital, Anne Hidalgo, has spoken out against Russian participation in the Olympics and called it “indecent”
She wrote about this on Twitter.
“As long as Russia continues to wage war on Ukraine, I do not want a Russian delegation at the Paris 2024 Games. I would find it indecent,” she tweeted.
On January 27, Thomas Bach said that he favored the participation of Russians and Belarusians in the 2024 Olympics, despite Ukraine's threats to boycott the Games.
On January 29, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he had written a letter to French leader Emmanuel Macron over the possible admission of Russians to the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
The IOC responded to the criticism from the Ukrainian authorities and the sports community by calling it “slander.”
On February 6, the Verkhovna Rada called on the IOC to ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from the 2024 Games in Paris.
On February 6, Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk called on IOC President Thomas Bach to prevent Russians and Belarusians from participating in the 2024 Olympics.
