Overpriced generators: Ukraine's MoD audit reveals violations in military unit worth UAH 38.8 million
The Ministry's Internal Audit Service, together with law enforcement agencies, inspected a military unit in Chernihiv region and revealed violations that caused UAH 38.8 million (USD 1 million) worth of damage to the state
The press service of the Ministry of Defense reported the information.
It noted that the largest of the four violations was the unreasonable overstatement of the cost of generators purchased in 2022. The losses from this amounted to UAH 37.1 million.
The audit found that officials of the military unit entered into additional agreements with suppliers and thus significantly changed the terms of the contract. As a result, they purchased 163 generators less than the required amount.
The Ministry of Defense added that in the period from October 2022 to April 2023, when generators were critically needed by the military, most of them were not delivered to military units but accumulated in warehouses. Thus, the share of generators issued for use did not exceed 15% of those purchased.
In addition, other violations totaling UAH 1.7 million were identified. During the audit, the Internal Audit Service of the Ministry of Defense established facts of obstruction of the auditors' actions.
By the decision of the Ministry of Defense leadership, the materials on violations by officials, including the commander of the military unit, which led to losses from the state budget, were transferred to law enforcement agencies.
