The Speaker of the Czech Chamber of Deputies, Markéta Pekarová Adamová, has acknowledged that Western nations erred in their response to Russia's 2014 occupation of Crimea

She made these comments in an interview with Radio Svoboda.
According to Adamová, Western countries' inadequate response may have been misinterpreted by Russia as a sign of weakness, which emboldened them to launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
"I now believe that we made a mistake by not exerting stronger pressure on Russia. Our response fell short. I'm confident that I'm not alone in recognizing this error among our leaders. To Russia, it likely appeared as a sign of weakness, influencing their subsequent actions," she commented.

Ukrainian diplomat Volodymyr Ohryzko noted that the American partners did not anticipate Russia’s willingness to initiate a conflict with Ukraine.
