“Open your eyes”: Ukrainian champion Usyk addresses Trump over Ukraine war
Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to “open his eyes” to the dangers of suggesting Ukraine should surrender occupied territories in exchange for a peace deal with Russia
Usyk said this in an interview with Piers Morgan, a fragment of which was posted by the British journalist on X.
He called nonsense the demands for Ukraine to give up the territories occupied by Russia for the sake of a peace agreement with Russia.
“It's bullsh*t... The whole world sees what Russia is doing...Why you take my country? President Trump, open your eyes, please... This is my territory. This is the territory of my country. These are my people,” said Usyk, who was born in Simferopol, Crimea.
When asked what he would say to the U.S. president, the boxer called on him to stop the war.
“Please, stop the war in Ukraine,” Usyk said.
Oleksandr Usyk is the world heavyweight champion under the WBC (World Boxing Council), WBA (World Boxing Association), and WBO (World Boxing Organization). On July 29 in London, the Ukrainian boxer will face British IBF (International Boxing Federation) titleholder Daniel Dubois in a rematch - Usyk previously knocked him out in August 2023. The bout will determine the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
