Oman offers Ukraine to create grain hub on Indian Ocean coast
The Sultanate of Oman has offered Kyiv to organize a grain hub to ensure food security in the Horn of Africa
Ukrinform reported this with reference to the Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa Maksym Subkh.
“During my visit, Oman offered Ukraine to seriously consider establishing a Ukrainian grain or grain and food hub in the Sultanate. The Omani side also said that in case of its creation, Ukraine could be absolutely sure of regular grain supplies to the Horn of Africa,” Subkh said.
According to the special representative, Ukraine can get access to one of the most modern logistics hubs, which operates essentially in the Indian Ocean. In addition, Oman has excellent political relations with countries such as Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda, and Ethiopia.
Oman is ready to develop trade and economic ties with Ukraine, and the idea of establishing Ukrainian grain hubs is already being worked on. It has now reached the level of agreeing on the technical details of implementation, including the financial component.
“Our goal is to ensure food security in Africa. The advantages of Oman are its excellent infrastructure, developed fleet, clear transparent banking system and tax rules,” Maksym Subkh said.
Meanwhile, after learning about the respective plans of Ukraine and Oman, Egypt expressed interest in creating a similar grain hub on its territory.
