"Despite the war going on in our country, we managed to adhere to legal democratic procedure. Despite the provocateurs' attempts to destabilize the situation in the city, our community remained faithful to democratic values. I am grateful to every Odesa citizen who took part in the vote", the mayor of Odesa shared.

Next, the question of dismantling the monument should be brought to the session of Odesa City Council.

"I will vote for the dismantling", Trukhanov added.

Hennadiy Trukhanov personally proposes to dismantle the monument to Catherine the Great and move it to the park of Imperial and Soviet past.

At the end of September, half of deputies ignored a meeting of Odesa City Council, where there was a vote on the dismantling of "Founders of Odesa" monument. As a sign of protest, Odesa residents decorated the monument to Catherine with a noose and executioner's cap, a reminder of the empress's anti-Ukrainian policy.
