Now is moment to double our military support for Ukraine – British Prime Minister
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has called for increased military assistance to Ukraine in his speech at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Rishi Sunak said in 2023 the UK will match or exceed the £2.3bn it invested in Ukraine last year, Sky News report.
"When Putin started this war, he gambled that our resolve would falter. Even now, he is betting that we will lose our nerve. But we proved him wrong then, and we will prove him wrong now," the British prime minister said.
In his speech, Sunak stressed that the West’s “collective efforts are making a difference”, but that “with every day that passes, Russia’s forces are inflicting yet more pain and suffering”.
"We need a military strategy for Ukraine to gain a decisive advantage on the battlefield to win the war and a political strategy to win the peace. To win the war Ukraine needs more artillery, armoured vehicles and air defence, so now is the moment to double down on our military support,” he pointed out.
Rishi Sunak added that not only Ukraine’s security is at stake – because of Russia's invasion, “sickening” war crimes, and irresponsible nuclear rhetoric there is a threat to every sovereign nation.
"Russia must also be held to account for the terrible destruction it has inflicted/ Russia has committed violation after violation against countries outside the collective security," he said.
