No agreements on humanitarian corridors from Azovstal. We ask the UN Secretary General to act as a guarantor of such corridor - Vereshchuk
Ukraine asks the UN Secretary General to act as guarantor of corridor to Azovstal, while there are no agreements on evacuation of Mariupol residents from industrial enterprise
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk announced it in her Telegram channel.
"It is important to understand that the humanitarian corridor is opened by agreement of the two parties. The unilaterally announced corridor does not provide security, and therefore, it is not a humanitarian corridor. So, I officially and publicly declare: today there are no agreements on humanitarian corridors from Azovstal", Vereshchuk wrote.
She recalled that on April 25, the Russian side announced a corridor for the evacuation of civilians from Azovstal.
"We could believe if the Russians had not disrupted humanitarian corridors many times before. I know what I'm talking about, because on behalf of the president I personally conduct such negotiations and establish humanitarian corridors", the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
Consequently, she turned to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres with a request to act as the initiator and guarantor of a humanitarian corridor from the Mariupol industrial plant for civilians.
"In particular, we ask representatives of the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross to be present in the humanitarian column. We hope for the effectiveness of the negotiations between the UN Secretary General and Russian representatives", Iryna Vereshchuk said.
