"If Ukraine joins the EU and NATO tomorrow, I will no longer be needed. But until that happens, I will continue to defend my country," the president emphasized.

He also recalled the Normandy Format negotiations with Russia in June 2014.

"I was very young and inexperienced. However, they failed to make me sign the relevant papers. We talked for a long time, negotiated, and even shouted. It lasted six hours without a break," the president added.

  • Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has called on NATO countries to increase pressure on Russia by threatening to admit Ukraine into the alliance if President Putin initiates a new invasion.
