Zelenskyy announces potential energy infrastructure ceasefire
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that on March 25, a ceasefire on energy infrastructure could be implemented, and this issue has been agreed upon with the United States
The president made this statement in his nightly address.
"There are agreements, and quite specific ones. It has been agreed with the American side that today a ceasefire on our energy sector may begin – we believe that after the publication of the corresponding statement on the results of the meetings and all the work of the teams, it will be possible to transition to silence regarding energy," Zelenskyy stated.
The president also added that Ukraine will do everything to ensure the agreements work and that there are no attacks. However, he emphasized that if the Russians strike, they will receive a strong response, and all responsibility will fall on them, as they will not be able to "tell fairy tales" because everyone will see everything.
Zelenskyy noted that it was Russia that refused to agree to a full ceasefire and is dragging out the war. However, even when Putin did not consent, there were no sanctions imposed on Russia.
"Moscow is now demanding the lifting of some sanctions, even though for three years, they have claimed that sanctions are supposedly not scary and even beneficial to them. But if this agreement also fails, if the Russians do not fulfill the terms of today's agreements and try to put pressure again on America, Europe, and Ukraine, then I believe there should be only one response: definitely new sanctions, definitely more pressure," the president emphasized.
Zelenskyy stated that neither the world nor Ukraine trusts Russia, so Russia must prove that it is ready to end the war and not deceive the world.
- On March 25, the second round of negotiations between Ukraine and the United States took place in Riyadh, with Russia also participating. The main agreements reached were ensuring the security of maritime traffic in the Black Sea and developing measures to prevent attacks on the energy system.
