Ukraine’s men’s beach volleyball team refuses to play Belarus, calling it terrorist state’s accomplice

The Ukrainian men’s national beach soccer team lost to Italy 1–4 in the semifinals of the 2025 Euroleague Superfinal. In the third-place match, Ukraine was supposed to face Belarus but refused to play

This was reported by the Ukrainian Beach Soccer Association.

In the semifinal against Italy, the first period ended in a 0–0 draw. In the second 12-minute period, Ukraine conceded twice. In the final period, Serhii Maksymets got Ukraine on the scoreboard when the match was already 0–3, but Sassari sealed the win for Italy.

Belarus, which lost 3–6 to Spain in the other semifinal, was due to play Ukraine for third place.

“However, Ukraine’s national team will boycott this match because Belarus is an accomplice of the terrorist state. As a result, Ukraine finishes fourth in the 2025 Euroleague,” the statement read.

In the final, Italy will face Spain for the main trophy.

On September 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with International Olympic Committee president Kirsty Coventry, thanking her for supporting Ukraine and Ukrainian athletes.
