Ukraine and Russia conduct fourth swap of wounded, sick, young prisoners
On Saturday, June 14, another stage of a major prisoner exchange took place under the agreements reached in Istanbul. Among those who returned to Ukraine were soldiers who had been held in Russian captivity since 2022
This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to him, many of the soldiers who returned to Ukraine had been held in captivity since 2022. They include servicemen from the Armed Forces, the National Guard, the State Border Guard Service, and the State Special Transport Service.
"We must free everyone and are working toward this goal so that no one is left behind with the enemy. I thank everyone who is helping," Zelenskyy emphasized.
The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War clarified that most of the freed defenders are officers. Some of those released are under the age of 25.
"The vast majority of today's released defenders had been in captivity since 2022. A significant number were captured during the defense of Mariupol," the Headquarters added.
Overall, the Ukrainians returning home had fought in the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, Kherson, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Kursk directions.
As noted, the released prisoners of war will undergo necessary medical examinations, receive physical and psychological rehabilitation assistance, and be granted all appropriate payments for the entire period of their captivity.
