Trump leaves door open to Moscow visit following talks with Putin
After the talks in Alaska on August 16, U.S. President Donald Trump said he does not rule out a possible next meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Moscow
He made the remark at the joint press conference following their negotiations.
“Mr. President, we will speak to you very soon and probably see you again very soon. Thank you very much, Vladimir,” Trump said at the end of the summit.
In response, Putin suggested holding their next meeting in the Russian capital.
The U.S. president did not dismiss the idea but admitted such a trip would draw criticism.
“Oh, that’s interesting. I don’t know. I’ll get a little heat on that one, but I but I could see it possibly happening. Thank you,” the American leader replied.
Trump and Putin's Alaska summit
On the night of August 16, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin held a summit in Anchorage, Alaska, in a “3-on-3” format. It lasted nearly three hours — their longest conversation yet. According to the American president, the meeting was “productive” and they discussed many issues, but “not on everything did we fully agree,” so “there is no deal yet.”
The U.S. president said he would soon call NATO representatives, and certainly President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and others.
Trump also stated that the Alaska summit nearly produced an agreement, and that a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin with his participation is now being planned.
“Now it’s really up to President Zelensky to get it done,” Trump said in a Fox News interview following his sitdown with Putin in Alaska, CNN reports. “They’re going to set up a meeting now between President Zelensky and President Putin and myself, I guess.”
