Kharkiv faces hardest winter of war after Russian attacks

“In recent days, the enemy has destroyed two transformer substations that supplied our city. This is a serious blow to the capacities of Kharkiv regional power company. And, judging by the dynamics of the attacks, it’s already clear that the coming winter will be the hardest for Kharkiv in all the years of the war,” the mayor emphasized.

According to him, about 22,000 consumers were left without electricity overnight, but thanks to the round-the-clock work of energy and utility services, the number has now dropped to around 3,500.

“Yes, the city has some capacity, Kharkiv energy provider has resources, and the national power system is functioning — but they are all limited. And we must face the truth: Russia will not stop its terror attempts. It will continue trying to deprive our people of life, plunging them into cold and darkness,” Terekhov stressed.

He noted that new strikes on critical infrastructure could happen at any moment, and the city must be prepared.

“After each strike, we repair boiler houses, fix heating and water systems, and restore generation. And we will keep doing this again and again — as long as needed — to ensure Kharkiv residents have light, heat, and water, so that Kharkiv lives, works, and stays strong,” the mayor concluded.
