It will take Ukraine 3 years to restore DniproHES hydroelectric power plant
Ukraine will need at least 3 years to restore the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant, which was attacked by Russian missiles on the night of June 1
This was announced by Ukrhydroenergo CEO Ivan Syrota in an interview with Forbes.
He noted that the debris removal lasted almost a month and a half and was completed on July 14. At the same time, it will take at least 3 years to restore the DniproHES hydroelectric power plant to the state it had before the enemy missile attack.
Syrota also stressed that additional resources are needed to reduce the plant's vulnerability to Russian attacks.
"For the enemy, DniproHES is more accessible, the front line is 50 km away. They are firing various missiles there - S-300, Kh-101, Kh-69. Our air defense cannot always cope with such an influx of missiles," said Ukrhydroenergo's CEO.
At the same time, the company is preparing lawsuits in national and international courts, demanding compensation from Russia for the damage it caused by missile attacks.
Among the 10 largest hydroelectric power plants in Ukraine, there is not a single one that has not been attacked by Russia. In particular, as of mid-July 2024, the Russian army has launched more than 120 missile strikes on them.
The publication adds that Ukrhydroenergo has lost almost 45% of its electricity generation due to Russian bombardments.
- On the night of June 1, 2024, the Russian occupation army attacked two hydroelectric power plants, including DniproHES.
