Poland's security, EU role are key topics before runoff election — analyst
Security, migration, Poland's EU vision, and security against the Russian threat are key topics raised before the presidential election's second round
Political analyst and editor-in-chief of the popular science annual Ukrainian Almanac, Olha Popovych, expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
"The topics of migrants, Poland’s security, and in this context, the issue of migrants and Ukraine—these were among the most discussed during the pre-election debates. Both candidates focused on these issues. In fact, these will be the key topics," she said.
Popovych noted that, in contrast, historical topics have faded before the second round of voting.
"Due to the exhumation and the step that Ukraine has taken towards Poland—the exhumation in Pluzhnyky, which is already completed—I believe that historical topics will not be as central as they were before the first round. Ultimately, security, migrants, Poland’s vision in the EU, and Poland's role there, along with the overall security of Poland against the Russian threat, will be the main topics raised before the second round," the analyst concluded.
- On Sunday, May 18, 2025, the first round of the presidential election took place in Poland. According to final data from the polling stations, the gap between the two candidates who advanced to the second round is less than 2%.
