Ukrainian MP Oleh Synyutka emphasized that it is crucial for society to show the authorities that illegal methods cannot be used

He stated this on the air of the Espreso TV channel.

"Today, the issue is not just about Poroshenko, although unconstitutional and illegal actions were taken against him. The document that was published differed from the one that initially appeared in the president's decree. I am convinced that if not in the Supreme Court, then in the European Court of Human Rights, these sanction decisions will definitely be overturned," Synyutka noted.

According to the MP, it is important for society to demonstrate to the authorities that they cannot act unlawfully. Today, the issue is that if the authorities manage to "remove" Poroshenko in this way, then there will be no businesspeople left in the country, and no one will feel safe, knowing that they live in Ukraine protected by the Constitution and the law.

"Muscovites are already rubbing their hands because the billions of hryvnias that Poroshenko directs to the army have now been stopped due to his accounts and other financial capabilities being frozen. The authorities are now initiating internal confrontation within the country, creating an internal front. Do you know what happened after sanctions were imposed against Poroshenko? The EU suspended the first negotiation procedure on our path from declaration to real membership in the European Union. This is actually a very dangerous precedent that has occurred in Ukraine," Synyutka stressed.

What came before

On February 13, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy enacted the National Security and Defense Council's decision on sanctions against Ukraine's fifth president Petro Poroshenko, as well as Ihor Kolomoyskyi, Kostiantyn Zhevago, Hennadiy Boholiubov, and Viktor Medvedchuk. Poroshenko called the NSDC's decision "unconstitutional and politically motivated."

MPs from the European Solidarity party blocked the Verkhovna Rada podium on February 13 and 14 in protest against political repression.

On February 14, the Prosecutor General's Office announced that it was conducting procedural oversight in several criminal cases involving well-known businessmen and former high-ranking officials who were subjected to personal sanctions by the NSDC's decision.

Lawyer Illia Novikov claimed that the NSDC's decision to impose sanctions on Petro Poroshenko was allegedly falsified. Poroshenko stated that the President’s Office had offered him certain conditions under which he would not face sanctions.
