NATO must increase military aid to Ukraine several times - Polish General Skrzypczak
NATO countries should increase military aid to Ukraine several times due to the threat of a new major offensive
The former commander of the Polish Ground Forces, former Deputy Minister of Defense General Waldemar Skrzypczak said this in a comment to Ukrinform.
“NATO should now make a decision on the full mobilization of all member countries of the Alliance, in particular the USA, in order to increase military aid to Ukraine several times. The Ukrainians should have much more weapons and munitions than they have now,” he stressed.
According to him, the Ukrainian military should be able to strike at enemy troop concentrations and warehouses that are being formed for a new offensive against Ukraine, even on the territory of the Russian Federation near Voronezh, Kursk and Belgorod. For this, Ukraine primarily needs long-range missiles, in particular ATACMS.
“The West must agree to supply such missiles, and there is no other way out. If they want to avoid a disaster, they must agree to supply ATACMS missiles to Ukraine,” Skrzypczak noted.
According to the general, Ukraine's Armed Forces should also receive a large amount of armored vehicles from the West in order to quickly retaliate after repelling the Russian offensive. In particular, it concerns Leopard tanks, with which the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to Skrzypczak, should additionally form 4-6 new battalions.
Assessing the situation at the front, the Polish general expressed the opinion that the Russian Federation may be preparing to strike from the north in the direction west of Kharkiv along the eastern bank of the Vorskla River to the point of its confluence with the Dnipro River and then strike at the city of Dnipro in order to cut off this part of Ukraine. At the same time, he now considers a direct attack on Kyiv unlikely.
He noted that a grouping of 120,000-150,000 Russian troops is preparing for the offensive.
“They are preparing to strike either during the frost, or they will wait until spring. However, it seems to me that they will be in a hurry,” Skrzypczak said.
